Restrictive covenants in the employment context are essentially obligations upon the employee towards the employer to refrain from particular activities once they have ceased working for the employer.
They are designed to protect the employer’s business and are particularly common in the contracts of employment of sales staff who have access to and intimate knowledge of an employer’s customer base.
An employer may seek to enforce restrictive covenants against you and if so then it is important that you take legal advice as to whether they are actually enforceable.
